Guided Tours

The highlight of any visit to Cardiff Castle is a guided tour of the spectacular Castle Apartments. Using his vast wealth, the 3rd Marquis of Bute commissioned the reknowned but eccentric artichect, William Burgess, to recreate a medieval gothic fantasy within the existing castle walls. Many of the rooms are adorned with vast marble fireplaces and spectacular ceilings, and have all been designed to a certain theme.

The Winter SmokingRoom, located in the Clock Tower has time as a theme with its decor relecting the seasons and the days of the week. The Arab room with its high vautled ceiling uses gold, sandlawood and images of parrots. The bedroom uses religion and the nursery is adorned with fairytales and nursery rhymes. All in all an experience not o be missed.

SPECIALIST TOURS

Groups can arrange specialist tours of the Castle with the Curator. These are particularly suitable for groups with an interest in history or decorative and fine arts. A lecture with slide presentation serves as an introduction to the subject, followed by the Curator's own guided tour of the Castle interiors. Allow at least 2 hours for this type of tour.

Morning coffee, a light lunch or afternoon tea can also be added to the specialist tour for a reasonable additional charge.

Specialist tours are available for pre-booked groups, at a cost of £13.00 per person (price valid until 31st March 2008).
